The Perfect Running Form

So whether you are just starting out running or you have been an avid runner for a while having the proper running form is key. Having the right form will help you run more efficiently and faster. You wont waste as much energy running when you do it properly. So here are some tricks....

Head: Your head is important to your overall form. Make sure to always look up and let your gaze guide you. Make sure your chin doesn’t jut out. If the head is too far forward or too far back it can increase fatigue and can cause pain in the neck, shoulders, and back. The head should not turn side to side or back and forth while running.

Shoulders: The shoulders should be low and loose. Don’t let the shoulders creep up to your ears. Shake your shoulders out while running to release the tension.

Arms and Hands: The arms should be held loose and at the shoulder. Bent approximately 90 degrees at the elbow, and may vary somewhat, depending on the individual runner. Your hands should be slightly cupped and relaxed. Pretend as if you have a potato chip in your hands and you are trying not to break it.

Torso: The trunk should be held steady and mostly erect, with a slight forward lean. If you find yourself slouching over too much while running take in a depth breath and naturally let your body move to an upright position.

Legs and Feet: Distance runner stride should be natural and smooth that emphasizes economy not power. When you land, you should land between the heel and ball of your foot.
